I figured I needed something if I was going to fly year round, remote on floats or skis. I can easily reach over and remove the unit from the mount with one hand when or if I have to get out of the aircraft. It is an impressive piece of technology. Before I taxi, I send my wife a SMS text with link via the InReach which allows her to track the flight.
