This picture is a good reason why to change the rubber carb socket on the Rotax recommended 5 year rubber replacement interval. I changed all my oil lines at my last conditional inspection and the rest of the rubber parts I planned to replace at the next inspection. This socket split while starting the engine (it was hard starting, so I also just changed my sprague clutch!). This has made a believer out of me, the heat, fuel and vibration these sockets endure make the 5 year interval a must. The sockets "looked fine", but were not, they were well over 5 years old. On a related note,I flew my 701 down to my daughters college yesterday and took my daughter car in and had all the tires replaced, great tread still , but they were 10 years old, same principle!

I bought some rubber components from an aftermarket supplier for my Rotax two strokes. I was able to reduce the replacement frequency substantially. Don James is an all around nice guy and is excellent to deal with. Take a look: http://jbmindustries.com/index.html
