I normally use QNH since the local ATC talks only in QNH so we say "minus 1250"

Most interesting indeed.  Do you normally use QFE or QNH when operating to these negative altitudes?

As to the setting sun: I guess it was June close to the Arctic Circle or December close to the
Antarctic Circle.
Well, Since it was little more then 90 degrees it was probably the first one.

Right! I took this photo yesterday in Masada airport, close to the Dead Sea - The lowest airport on earth: 1250 below sea level. Bar Yehuda airstrip is few kilometers to the south, in the same altitude.

It didn't make sense at first, but then it hit me (although he's yet to confirm that I guessed correctly).
It reminds me of a photo of the GPS on the dash in a STOL CH 701: The photo showed the 701 heading toward the setting sun, yet the GPS heading (track) indicated 92-degrees... how could that be?

I'm guessing you're close to the Dead Sea (below sea level). Bar Yehuda Airfield?
