while waiting for the 601XL upgrade kit to be ready to order, I still have lots to do on my Corvair engine. Yesterday I welded the bugpack flanges on my intakes. Boy, the welds are ugly but they are airtight and strong. Gas welding the tubing to the much thicker flange was tricky as I had to be careful not to burn holes in the tubing. Ask me how I know. Had to keep the heat concentrated towards flanges. Since I had the WW intake on the engine, I positioned on heads and tack welded the parts with thin steel plate under flange covering head intake hole. I then moved to workbench to complete the welds. Intake tubes are canted in toward center of engine to provide clearance with the cowling.
