I'm think you ABSOLUTELY made the right choice.  Also, a good thing to keep in mind regarding fuel cutoffs.  Are you at liberty to say who and where did the wrap?

My brother is a professional paint and body man.  He does absolutely gorgeous work (but by no means cheap...even if a brother).  But I am really liking the wrap idea.  I was considering base white with vinyl decals like the 750 Cruiser, but the wrap looks even better.

Thanks for the info.

The leak was because the right fuel cross fed to the left tank, which was the low tank. I have since learned the value of putting cut off valves on both tanks where they enter the cockpit.

The initial cost was $4,200 and was done by a local company. I had two painting estimates done as a comparison. They both came in at more than $15,000! I am thinking I made the right choice.

Ouch about the fuel leak!  The tanks must have been REAL full.

What kind of cost did you incur with the initial wrap?  Who/where was it done?

The wrap has held up fine and still looks like the day it was put on. Inspection plates were simply wrapped separately and screwed on. I run my fingers over the rivet heads but have not found anything loose.

We had a tire go flat and, since the fuel tanks were full, one side leaked down the wing ruining the wrap because I did not catch it for a couple days. The wrap was easily and inexpensively replaced in that section. Cant even tell there was a problem.

Looks like about 2 years have passed since this was an active discussion.  I'm curious how the wrap has held up.  Also, are you able to "inspect" the rivets for loosening and how did you handle inspection plates?

Looks really good initially, what about now?

Hi,

I think this wrap thing is very nice BUT you need to be real carefull when you stick it on. Once done, you can't remove it easily and I guess it would be almost impossible to take it off without breaking it in the process.

It does not add any weight and sure make the CH701 shine if the design is well tought of.

As for paint, I checked Endura Paints and their aircraft epoxy paint, primer and stuff cost me less than 1000$.

Obviously, I still have to apply it and it weighs more than vinyl decals !

I hope you share pictures of the finish product when done !!!

Regards,

Norm

How does the "WRAP" fit on the rivet heads, any bubbles around them? It really looks sharp but you need a Deere decal on it. LOL.

Add me to the list of people wanting to see how this turns out, very interested in doing this for mine, come the day.

I did get a price estimate from a local shop for my 750.The initial estimate  based on my graphic files and the 750 surface area dimensions was  2,600$ for   70 % wrapped , 30 % paint. The price increases  when you apply Ultraviolet resistant vinyl but it is way cheaper than paint no doubt.  And FASTER !!!! -:)

can't wait to see your plane wrapped..

I look forward to hearing how well the "wrap" works out.  It may be a good alternative to paint...
