Going with 2-piece XL style tips on my 650. The whole tip is a lot stronger with the crimped metal L's and sheet aluminum, and fitting a small fiberglass "tiplet" is a lot easier than that huge hunk of fiberglass.

Thanks Joe - as it turns out, the Photo Assembly CD that came with my 650 actually still has the 601XL wing-tip stuff... I hadn't looked at it because I figured it would be the 650 fiberglass style, and I really don't like them. They may be a more "seamless" look - but they are floppy and weak, and a real P.I.T.A. to try and fit in there around compound curves... but anyway, they show it overlapping just like you did it - and BTW, yours look great. I may be adding a pound or two overall - but I think it's pound-wise. Thanks!
Yes Brian, that is how I did mine. Here is a photo of mine that I posted here: http://www.zenith.aero/photo/ch750-scratch-build-wingtip?context=user
Joe - Obviously, I don't have the plans for the original 2-piece wingtip - but I did rivet an L to the end of the spar, so where my aluminum & fiberglass overlap it will rivet to that L angle. It looks to me from what I can see in pictures I have found that the aluminum overlaps the fiberglass... is that how you did yours?
Looks great! I also did the same with my CH750 wing tips. I also connected the wing tip at the spar extension with an L angle (you may have already planned to do the same) which really gave the whole assembly a lot of strength/stability.
