Hi Brian,
I am a long range Canadian neighbor (from Montreal, Quebec) and I also started a 650B earlier this year. Congratulation on your decision to build your own wings! I too made that decision at the end of last year. So far I have completed the Rudder, H-Stab, Elevator and one Flap. Things are progressing well and the quality of my parts keeps improving. There are a few things I would have done differently.
My first recommendation is: Make sure you understand the rules from Transport Canada. It is not always clear what our obligations are so ask questions before going too far. For instance I did not understood correctly the Pre-Covering inspection needs to leave all components open for the inspection. I was just following the assembly manuals. After talking to the delegate Rep about the Pre-Covering inspection I had to drill out a lot of Clecos to provide the required access.
It would be nice to exchange experiences and knowledge with you as we both progress in our respective build. I could share with you my little experience. If interested – you can reach me on my private email: alain.duf@videotron.ca
Good luck with your project
