Sorry about the late get back to you. I think 2009 slipped away and I was not there. I have reduced my 601 to a non aircraft. I feel like I am building a new zenith. I flew the 801 4 times las week. We are happy to be able to fly with the 601 down. Cold weather in Florida, not to usual.
My 801 has a new factory build lyc o-360. It is a great engine and has performed wonderfully.
I have never been in the back seat. However, my wife has been in the front and the back and she says the view in the back is better than the front.
Yes, the engine is new and zenith bought it through lyc/teldnye.
-flew four people a week ago, 801 performed great
-typically just me and my wife
-people and fuel about 1000lbs
-fix pitch 0-360
-use 1500 rpm on landings to help flare (use new elevator)
-at half tanks and me, I accel to 30 mph and pull back-great fun
-kit info on the 801 was much better than the 601
-typical cruise speed 92-96. never 106 mph
-801 has massive parasite drag, more throttle more gas--cruise rpm around 2250-2300 for best gph
-i have a 601 and 801. Building both was great and fun-I am thinking of putting one up for sale, can't decide which one, if you or anyone you know is interested have them call me 435-635-5433.
-I call the 601 my sports car and the 801 the SUV.
