- I started this project with my dad and my son years ago and family problems got in the way and this was about the same time there was a problem with the wings and at the time there was no solution so I dropped out of building the 601xl. Fast forward several years and relationships were mended and dad wanted me to take the project and finish it. My son (Daniel) was in the Marines and stationed in Hawaii and I just had no desire to build the airplane and told dad to just sell it and get whatever he could for it but he just said he’d rather keep it and maybe one day I’d change my mind. I hadn’t even thought about it again until after dad died in March of 25 so while we were cleaning out his shop Daniel said he wanted to finish the plane and I agreed to start building it again with him. Danny has always loved aviation and flying with my dad so I wasn’t surprised when he said he wanted us to finish it. Here we are today, He’s been flying with an instructor and we’re back building the 601XL “B" I guess it's called now.
