Tyler,
I read a comment you made on Angus' page and thought I would contact you. I am in Texas as well, but way over in El Paso. I am a privat pilot and first time builder too and thought we might be able to share some tips, tricks and ideas. I see you are in contact with Jimmy Young and I am too. Hope to hear from you!
Thanks,

Blaine Schwartz

Yes I'm the same guy on Robert's website & I do still own the Kolb. He is a good friend of mine. The Kolb is a lot of fun to fly, but hard to do any long cross-country flying in unless you are retired. I do fly it over to St. Francisville Louisiana from time to time, about 610 miles round trip, stay overnight. I've got a good engine on it, the HKS 4-stroke 60 HP.
Regarding engines, I'm leaning towards an 0-200. It's simple, proven, tough. Not the best power to weight ratio, but I flew in the demo plane with both the 0-200 & the Jabiru, & I could not tell any difference. Roger says the Jab is better in climb, cruise, etc., & I'm sure it is, but I still like the 0-200, will get me out of anywhere I'll be going. I'll probably get a fresh rebuilt one, may consider a new 0-200-D, but would like to see more of a track record on it first. I've also considered the Corvair, but I would only go with a William Wynne-built Corvair with the 5th bearing added should I go that route.
I plan to go to Sun & Fun this year, figure I can kick building thoughts around with 750 builders in person & check out the engines. You should go if you can, lot's of info available.
My personal email is jdy100@comcast.net. My cell # is 832.309.1730.

HI Tyler,
It's good to hear of another 750 builder in the state, though a long ways off. I was born in Lubbock, so I know where Canyon is.
You & I are in somewhat the same boat, both being first time builders. Though there are many folks much more qualified than I, If you ever feel the need to ask me what I know about any of the process, just drop me a line. If you don't have the HomebuiltHelp videos on the 750, I highly recommend them. It helps the confidence level increase when you can see exactly how someone does a particular task. Have fun with your build!
