Hi Tim, With the angle at 110 deg. knuckle room is close, but that is a better cutting angle. I think the skipping is due to the larger angle. Try making an offset handle (with a bend) and reset the cutter to 90-110 deg. Or try my aluminum cutter 2.0 using a guide on a dremel tool and dremel cutoff wheel.
Best Regards,
Larry Zepp
Larry, another builder @Jesse Hartman and I started making these cutting tools. When the cutting bit is at 110 degrees we're finding that the knuckles are touching the metal as we pull across the sheet. Is this the intended cutting angle? We changed the angle closer to 145 degrees to give us more knuckle room.
In our experience we are also seeing the cutter jump. I'll call it a 1mm hop. I thought it was from the markings on our straight edge, but it's not. Does this happen for you? or could it be a side effect of changing the angle?
Pretty cool. Thanks! This file, I can open. I like your design.
