Hi.  Wondering if its easier to buy zinc chromate in spray cans, or if I should buy the gallon?  Do you brush it on or spray it on? Also If I want to prime only mating surfaces is one gallon gonna be enough for a 750?  Any help would be great.

I know I ask alot of questions, and im sure there will be 100's more but I can give you guys my social # so you can claim me as a dependent If I get to needy :)

Cortec would be another option  i think you could get it from Zenith, comes in a can thin it and brush it on.

apparently less money than other methods.

Jesse, I primed only the mating surfaces with zinc chromate (spray can) I think I used about 18 cans for my 750. I scuffed the surface with a scotch brite pad before priming. Zinc chromate is getting harder to find, I think they quit making it and everyone is selling what they have in stock yet, they have replaced it with Zinc phosphate or Zinc oxide primers. I have an unopened case (10 cans) of Zinc chromate (Green) I will sell for $50.00 + shipping if anyone is interested. Kevin

Though I sprayed all interior surfaces with cans (zinc phosphate - I love the yellow green look), you'll have an easy time of it on the mating surfaces only.  And brushing it on means no overspray and a neater looking interior.

Bob's suggestion to do the entire gas tank compartment is wise, since water can enter around the gas filler.

Best,

Joe

Thanks Bob. That is what I needed to hear. No need to spend extra money if I dont need to.

I used it in the 1 litre can, and thinned with Lacquer thinner. Buy 1 litre (= empty litre can) and mix with 1 litre of thinner to make 2 litres. This should do your CH750. It goes only between mating surfraced of aluminum or aluminum & steel. You can chromate the inside skins of the gas tank compartment in the wings, other than that you just adding weight. Thinned it drys fast and is applied with a paint brush. Nasty to your health to be spraying that stuff around ...brush works great and wrapped in a thinner soaked rag in a sealed plastic bag "zip-lock" the brush will last most of the plane. It takes 1/8th of a litre to do a single 1450 float and that is chromating everything internal and some stuff external.
