We are about to buy an engine for the CH750 that came together quite quickly. While we anticipate some wheel operation, we live on Lake Superior, and anticipate most of the activity will be on floats.

While we generally adhere to the concept that more power is better to get airborne with floats, we are concerned about weight and balance. Has anyone put a CH750 on floats, what engine did you chose and why, and what was your balance calculations?

CH750 with Rotax 912S is 690 lbs empty. CH750 with Jabiru 3300 is 730 lbs empty. CH750 with Cont. 0-200 is 825 lb empty. I chose the Rotax 912S 100hp engine because the lighter the airframe the more useful load, the better the climb and more fuel efficient. It has the ability to swing a 72 inch diameter WARP 3-blade prop, and a large diameter, slow moving prop makes the thrust required for float operations. The engine has a real world proven 2000 hrs TBO with many engines exceeding that TBO in flight school operations. With a fuel flow of 15 - 20 litres / hr your CH750 with larger fuel tanks has a 6 hr fuel range with is important on float back woods type missions. Open the crate then bolt on (Zenith FWF pkg) and go flying with time proven pkg. There is a reason that 90% of the factory LSA type aircraft come ith the Rotax 912 series engines.
