I am using the fuel caps provided by Zenith but allways see fuel stains from fuel leaking obviously while in flight. I have seen pictures of fuel caps with an elevated gooseneck breather. Do these prevent the loss of fuel that I am seeing? Are they available from any commercial source? Thanks in advance, Ray

You can easily modify the Zenith caps and add a "goose neck" or snorkel vent. I fixed mine by drilling through the center of the cap and inserting a snorkel made from steel brake line. The raw stock can be purchased at most automotive part houses, get one with a flare on both ends, cut two pieces from it, bend to shape and braze to the caps. Make sure to line the direction of the snorkel relative to each cap when tightened, I found my caps tightened in different positions. A MAP gas torch works good to braze these on. Once cool, repaint and fill the edge vents with epoxy. These caps have worked great for me and balanced the fuel flow problem I had before. I have written more about this before on the Matronics site so check there for additional details.Good luck..

Yes the elevated gooseneck breather prevent fuel leaking. I flew a rans s-12 that had them and never any problem of fuel leaking. The Zenith caps are a different design in that they vent around the outside of the cap I believe. I read somewhere that you can drill and weld a gooseneck breather tube on and fill in around the outside of the cap. I think Wag-aero sells them, the ones on the rans were plastic caps with metal goosenecks.
