Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
I'm building a CH 750 on Zenith 1450A amphibious floats. Completed so far are everything except the fuselage and fuselage-related components. (Why I built the floats before completing the plane is another story for another time....) At Oshkosh this summer it became apparent that the insurance folks don't like to insure a floatplane for a pilot who has not been current on floats after his/her 70th birthday. It seems that insurance can be procured at age 70 and over if you are current and active as you go through your 70th birthday. I will turn 70 in 16 months, and didn't feel I could complete the plane alone in that amount of time, so I enlisted the help of American Light Sport Aircrafters to assist in the build. I have worked with Bill and Craig in the past when I first started building the plane and they were a wonderful help, and taught me, as a first time builder, many things airplane builder related. Wonderful people to work with. So I purchased an 8.5 x 24 foot enclosed cargo trailer, packed it up, and am heading to Mexico, Mo as soon as the snow passes through. Here's a couple of pictures of the rig. Hope when I post in the near future, there will be a fuselage in the trailer!

Hi David! correction...."fly off the required 10 hours on the floats...."
Hi David! My experience with builder assist didn't go too well, hence I need to re-evaluate my plan moving forward. But the original plan was to fly off the mandatory first 40 hours on wheels then fly off the required 40 hours on the floats and then switch back and forth with the seasons.
Frank,
Do you plan on mounting and test flying with the floats or with the conventional gear first? I'm on the fence...
Dave
Hi Frank,
That's a great way to fly sooner.
With two experienced builders and yourself !! you should have a fuselage in a week...lol
