I'm looking ahead to engine installation details - most likely for a Lyc O-235. (Yes, I know they are a bit heavier, etc., but I am familiar with Lyc engines and prefer to go this route.)

Seeking any advice on:

Engine mount - purchase or self built?

Cowling - will a CH601 fit ? (I have read that the 601/750 firewalls are the same size/shape.)

Cowling mounting arrangements - screws into the firewall flange?

Carb location - this varies with model # on other Lycs - what best for a 750? (Also affects cowling shape, of course)

Fuel system - gascolator on firewall or ?

Exhaust - will something from a C-150 fit or some other source?

Starter/alternator - lighter is obviously better, what are others using?

Prop - what's suitable for a O-235 general purpose 750?

Thanks for any help - I'm just trying to avoid having to re-invent an old wheel.

Jim

Everything you need is found at Zenair of Canada.  Don't forget that the original engine in Chris's first 601XL was an O-235.  Sorry I am late reading your request.

Hey,Jim if your going to use the stock carb you may have to modify the cowling for clearance.I'm using rotec's Carb it fitted perfect with no modification. But got some tuning issues. Not bad but got some fine tuning to do.Chad

Thanks to Chad and Chris for your responses.

I have a set of CH750 options drawings on order and will probably do my own mount.

The cowling in Chad's pictures looks good. Is it the same one as the CH 601 cowl used on an O-235? What version of O-235 do you have - the carb location moves about with different versions of O-320s and makes fitting the air intake trickey (guess who I know..).

Chad's exhaust I see is mentioned as a local custom made - did you investigate teh socalled Vetterman exhausts used on various RVs as an option?

Cheers, Jim

Jim - Engine Mount - Purchase;   Cowling mount - Cessna type mounting;    Carb location - bottom of engine; Fuel system - drain valve on the bottom of the airframe that's has easy access. I would personally like the gasculator as high on the firewall as possible with a hose running from the bottom of it to a place of easy access that has the drain valve. My two cents.

Chris
