Optional Fiberglass bubble door installation on the 701

The plans have no information to guide the installation of the optional fiberglass doors.

The builder resources on Zenith's website have an aged photo assembly guide that leaves out a key piece of info...The upper door sills must be trimmed 20 mm ( from 80 to 60mm in height). Otherwise the door hinges will not align with the door's upper flange, instead they will want to align on the plexiglass.

I confirmed my findings with another builder's experience here:

The photo assembly guide gives one the impression that the fiberglass doors are retrofittable to aircraft with original doors as was done on the factory 701. The new doors must be taller than those shown.

That's exactly right. I trimmed one door before I realized the door sill was too long. I replaced the sill with a shorter part and had Zenith sent a new door. I paid shipping and they supplied the door. As far as gaps, I'm installing the 750 secondary latch system. One latch center door, and the rod at the aft door to hold it closed. It won't get rid of the gap at the aft door but I think it can be sealed with the right door seal glued to the structure.

Also the gas spring to hold the door open at 30 lbs is too much. I ordered a set from McMasters carr at 15 psi. The door requires 5 lbs to open and hold it.

To close the door attach a strap at the door gas spring attach to pull the door closed. That will stop the repetitive bending of the door at that attach point. I guess one builder had the door break at that point.
