Which prop did you put on?

A fixed pitch prop is like having a one speed transmission in a car. Sounds like you have been driving around in fourth gear, hard to get started and hard to climb a hill at low speed. You must have selected a replacement prop that puts you into second gear. Better at getting started and better at climbing at low speeds. Depending on how missmatched your prop was, you might even get better cruise speed or you may loose a few mph of cruise speed. Overall, sounds like you got a big improvement. Congratulations.
