I built Zena Mae as an HDS speed wing. We now have over 350 hours as an HDS. Very nice, but as a taildragger with a a shallow angle of attack on the ground it requires that you land at a very fast rate of speed. So long as you are going asphalt to asphalt it is no problem. But coming on to rough dirt at 60mph is another matter.
I have wanted to convert to the HD for some time. Got all the parts last July, and spent November to March making the new wings. Added a couple advantages with leading edge tanks, which allows full lockers for baggage.
Today I got the first hour + in! What a difference. Landing is 10 to 15MPH slower. 912S is not working nearly as hard to maintain level cruise. I estimate rate of climb to be 200'/min better. And cruise so far up to 5000' no loss from the speed wing. So far improvement in all perameters. The only down side is appearance is not that 'slick fighter' look. But I can live with this.

Bill I'm really considering the same thing with my HDS and am wondering what your opinion is now that's it's been over two year since you made the change? loss of cruise speed is my main concern, what is yours and is it still equivalent to the HDS wing?
