Has anybody put a variable pitch prop on a ch601 hds, I am thinking of a Woodcomp SR3000, but I would like to know if anybody has already done it. What improvements were there ? How did it effect the C of G, anybody in the UK done it and passed it with the LAA. Any help appreciated.

Terry I dont have a variable pitch prop on my 601HDS, but i did put a airmaster constant speed on my other aircraft and it gave me about 10kts mor cruise speed. Take off and landing distances improved. For the cost and the extra maintenance, you would have to weigh it up if its worth it.
it certainly improves performance and changed to C of G is negligible
I have a 601XL so might be different, but I have just changed my variable Woodcomp Vari 170 to a ground adjustable DUC Swirl 3. I have to say the performance is excellent I actually think I get better performance out of this prop than the inflight adjustable one! and its is quieter and looks better. I had go go through a MOD 4 change with the LAA which was very dull and time consuming, but needed to be done. Added extra weight at the engine end to keep in W&B. Speak with Metal Seaguls they did a great job.
