Ijust replaced my bungees on the mains this week.  What a hassle.  I spent 5 hours on Tuesday and 5 hours on Wednesday crawling under the plane in 100 degree weather.  I agree with the previous posters.  Don't put it off, use the 1080HD's and use Larry's jig.  The jig makes it a whole lot easier.

This is a photo of how high the mains were above the wing prior to replacing.

You can see one of the bungees had failed.  Each main had a failed bungee.

My bungees were 12 years old and the plane had been sitting on the landing gear for 5 years so this was not unexpected.  Plane had been flying for 1 year, 100 hours flight time and over 250 landings.

Do not procrastinate or put this job off.    Contact me off line mdherder@gmail.com if you'd like.  I just changed mine out and I have some suggestions.

Roy,

The shock rings required for the landing gear on both the main legs and nose leg are 1080HD. Be sure to order the 1080HD, not the 1080 shock rings. If you haven't already, it would be very beneficial for you to visit Larry MacFarland's website to get the plans for a gear leg compression jig that makes replacing the main gear shock rings a much easier chore. Here is the link to the website :  www.macsmachine.com  Over on the left side go to the dropdown and click on "Tools, Jigging & Handling" and then select "Gear Strut Jigs". This is a very simple tool to fabricate with readily available materials. Without this device, replacing the shock rings on the main gear is an absolute nightmare.

Have fun and fly safe,

Dennis
