Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
Hello Zenairers,
I have an older Zodiak and want to install a low profile windshield on it. They call it the Speedster.
I would love to convers with someone who has flowen the speedster and find out about it's pro's and con's.
I was thinking that i would profere a lower profile than the ones that you see in the pictures on the internet. I understand the cubby hole in the back has to be covered.
I was wondering about the drag and wind noise and the aircraft performance with this modification.
Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "low profile windshield". The canopy is already as low as possible because the headroom is not much as is. I made a change to the rear of the canopy which may be something like you intend. Mainly, I cut it off and put a raised turtleback on behind. That makes the rear canopy seal tighter although longer. You also get larger volume for stuff behind the seat. You can't carry more, but it is easier to get to. This change weighed 3 lbs more than what was removed. There should be some aerodynamic advantage too.
Here is some info on my builder log.
