Thanks Rick I was aware of those sites and have spent a lot of time on them. They are great resources. I was just hoping to hear from 701'ers as I don't recall seeing any on those sites. None the less they are very informative. I will continue to look for places in the Alberta back country as well. Although with all this national and provincial park the strips are scarce.
Happy flying!
Santa Paula is a drive from Simi. I've got a good friend living in Santa Paula an have been trying to get over there for a year or so to see him. I'll now have to make a point of getting it done. I'm looking for an adventurious 701 flyer to go find out of the way places to fly to. if this sounds fun let me know.
Hello Rick
Sorry to wait so long to reply, this is the first time that I see your post. I keep my airplane at Santa Paula; I generally like to fly to Oceano (l52) and walk to town for lunch; I also visit Santa Inez Kiza on a fairly regular basis. I also like to fly with a buddy however he sold his LSA plane and now fly's a Van's RV6, there is much disparity in speed. See my profile on facebook.
The move to the new house has taken priority. Probably start ordering parts next month. Hope to visit with Bill Proctor soon and secure the rudder. Should be able to devote some time to the project over the winter. Flying next summer is the goal.

Rick.
I see Mariposa is haveing an open house this weekend. I was wondering if you are giong?
I flew over to Cloverdale last Friday and Doug and Lori wanted me to make sure I invited you to the open house over there on October 10th.
Rick-
Bill Proctor would like to go with us to Cloverdale. See my comments on his plane site. It's fine with me and I would be glad to take him up there. If the weather is good, I'll probably divert to Carson City on the way home.
Rick,
Flying is great! Not as many hours as I would like but I will be at Cloverdale, weather permiting.
Have most all the bugs worked out and it flys great. A little left wing heavy, I might work on that some day.
See you at Cloverdale
Rick,
Great Idea!! I was planning to go - in a group of three - terrific. I haven't met Dan yet. Stop by Oakdale and we can go from there. I'm painting my plane right now, but should have it assembled and ready by that date.
Rick,
Got the prop re-pitched and some other things sorted out, went flying yesterday (Wednesday) for about an hour and a half. Got to do a lot more landings, turns and slow flight, just to get a feel for everything.
The rudder is a little stiff, I will sort that out today and do some more flying Friday morning.
I will be lucky to get Saturday off for the QSP fly-in, if I have my hours flown off I will probably be at Cloverdale early Saturday morning. I'll see you there.
Rick: Look up 4200 Idaho Road, Turlock, CA on Goggle Earth. This will give you a good look at the runway and the coordinates are at the bottom. Please note this is a very narrow runway with the width at the south end about 20' wide for the wheels. It is currently planted in oats so there is plenty of room for the wings if you land in the first half of the runway. There is a small bump at the midsection of the runway that will surprise you if you are going fast over it. Stay centered on the runway because the edges are irrigation berms and there is a fence on the east side. I only land going north because of the 50-60' high eucalyptus trees on the north end. If there is a south wind greater than 5 mph I don't fly because I would have to land into the wind over the se tall trees. I will be removing these trees in the future but don't want to spend the money right now.
One last thing. Irrigation season is upon us so be aware the field might be flooded making landing impossible. Give me a call and we can discuss the details.
Rick: Yes I and my wife are planning to go to Cloverdale on May 9th weather permitting. You can land at my strip and refuel if needed before we head further north.
I did get it blessed last Tuesday, Friday was the first flight. I had what I thought was a prop pitch problem but it turned out to be a tach problem. I'm going back to the old pitch setting and going to do a static run up today and then some more flying. I hope to be able to go to Cloverdale on May 9th. Will I see you there?
Rick; from Bill Proctor in Lodi CA. I grew up in the Delano; Bakersfield area and know the country fairly well. I have a 1000 ft grass runway on my property near Valley Springs. CA. My 701 is aboyt 50% complete and I am enjoying the building process. If you are in the area and would like to stop by, let me know.

Michael Mccarthy.
I’ll make it my next flight.
How do I find you at the airport?
I would have been there but I was attending my daughter’s graduation
from Pepperdine down in Malibu. I would
have got shot if I missed that.
Talk to you soon.
