Flying in Alaska: Beach landing and take-off in the Zenith STOL

Roger Dubbert from the Zenith Aircraft factory recently returned from a visit to Alaska (to attend the Great Alaska Aviation Gathering in Anchorage) where he went flying with builder/pilot Bill Wilcox, who has been flying his STOL CH 801 sport utility aircraft for the past 15 years in Alaska.

Amazing. Keeps my inspiration going! There are some back country beaches in Florida I would live to land on. How do you know how soft the sand is on an unknown beach? I suppose you look at the color?
