The demo flight is a highlight of the Zenith workshop experience. Jennifer participated at the May 2025 Zenith workshop class with her husband Ramos, and went flying with Roger (on a hot gusty day) in the STOL CH 750 Super Duty, the kit airplane that she and her husband are now building
Attending a hands-on Zenith Aircraft workshop class is a lot more than just sheet-metal and rivets, it also provides participants with the opportunity to go flying with a Zenith demo pilot and to tour the modern Zenith kit aircraft factory.
Zenith Aircraft’s hands-on workshops are primarily for first-time kit airplane builders and are popular with sport aviation enthusiasts who are considering to build their own kit airplane and who want to learn more about the the required skills, tools, workspace, and more. As part of the workshop each participant builds and assembles their own Zenith aircraft rudder tail section from a standard Zenith kit. Most participants are able to successfully complete the assembly of their own rudder tail section of the aircraft in just one day, thanks mainly to the high level of completion offered with Zeniths new kits, featuring final hole size, match-drilled parts.
In the process of building the rudder assembly, participants tackle many activities including learning how to read drawings (blueprints) and work with assembly instructions (manuals) under the guidance of factory staff. They learn the procedures for putting together an aircraft assembly, including drilling and blind riveting. In the end, they have an assembled rudder that is ready to install on a Zenith kit airplane and the confidence to build their very own kit airplane.
“The rest of the kit is constructed the same way as the rudder, using the same tools,” said Heintz. “Participants get far more out of the workshop than just a finished aircraft rudder: they go home with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to build their own airplane. Most importantly, they learn that kit building is enjoyable and something that can engage the whole family. Many of our prospective builders bring their spouses or other family member, who often encourage them to move forward with the rest of the kit. With modern technology, such as final hole size CNC match drilled parts, and good instructions, aircraft construction has become much easier than most people think.”
The STOL CH 750 Super Duty is the latest model in the Zenith high-wing lineup. The resemblance between the STOL CH 750 Super Duty (SD) and the original STOL CH 750 light-sport aircraft is obvious, but the Super Duty offers increased useful load, the addition of a jump seat in the big rear cabin area, and more powerful engine choices for maximum short take-off and landing (STOL) capability. The design features fixed wing leading-edge slats, full-length flaperons (for excellent control at slow flight), big tires for off-airport operations, and effective rudder and elevator to allow for slow flight operations. The roomy cabin provides easy access from both sides and amazing visibility from the wrap-around windows and bubble doors.
This factory demonstrator Zenith STOL CH 750 Super Duty sport utility aircraft is powered by a 205-hp IO-375 engine, and equipped with an extra-large, free-standing 17” display: The Avilution UnPanel integrated avionics display mounted on a repositionable mount.
