She loved it.
Our local EAA chapter's newsletter editor asked us if we could write an article about it, and Mary and I each wrote articles. Hers was from a non-pilot spouses perspective.
Here's a link to that newsletter: http://home.comcast.net/~petegavin/eaa25/eaa251307.pdf
Building an airplane is a big, expensive, and time-consuming project. Continued support of the spouse is a key factor for success. I believe that a critical part of getting (and keeping) the support of the spouse is to put a focus on the social aspect of aviation. That gets a lot of the spouses involved, and when those kind of friendships start forming, it helps to keep them involved...
We try to host at least one big party a year (typically more, though) where we invite fellow builders, pilots, friends & neighbors to our house. People are always good about bringing stuff, and a fun time is always had. Other friends have started hosting social events, too.
5 years ago, it was mainly just the men (and a couple female pilots) who were getting together, but now the spouses are having as much fun as we are.
