Stall / spin flight tests in the incredible STOL CH 801 Super Duty sport utility aircraft.
This is Gary Reeves' awesome CH801-SD, equipped with a modern Titan IO-370 engine, custom Catto prop, Garmin avionics and a long list of special features and custom options including autopilot, BRS whole aircraft rescue parachute system, and extended range fuel system.
Based on the standard STOL CH 801 (in kit production for 20 years), the four-seat CH 801 SD is developed for more demanding missions and maximum utility.
The new and larger STOL CH 801-SD offers enhanced load-carrying capabilities as well as exceptional slow-flight performances while still using simple, proven design concepts for easy assembly, operation and maintenance. The new STOL CH 801-SD design has 4 feet additional wingspan than the lighter "HD" model. That's 2 feet per side, for a total wing area of 189 square feet. This added lifting capability allows the aircraft to carry higher loads, whether passengers or cargo. At lighter loads, the larger wing allows for even more spectacular short take-offs and STOL performances.
An extended stabilizer and elevator give the larger and heavier STOL CH 801-SD all the control it needs for slow flight - and the repetitive and often very demanding (extreme) maneuvers used for effective crop spraying. The "SD" model uses the same All-Flying rudder design found on other Zenair STOL models for superior directional/yaw control and remarkable cross-wind capabilities.
The STOL CH 801-SD is designed for a wide range of aircraft engines, from 180 to 240 HP. Because it is not designed ‘around’ a specific engine, custom installations by builders are possible, easy and straight-forward.
Propellers can also be customized based on available budget and for desired performance.
Manufactured by Zenair Ltd. (in Canada) the new "Super-Duty" (SD) is available in standard kit form, as a "Quick-Build" kit, or fully assembled through a custom "Builder-Assistance" program.

That thing is amazing! Any chance we get to see this beast at Oshkosh this year?
Interesting but no distance, GW, or airspeed numbers provided.
Can anyone out there tell me if you can safely spin or have successfully spun the standard CH801 (wide stabilizer)? I'd like to do some aggressive stall evaluations on my CH 801 but not without first knowing if it can be safely spun.
