Good afternoon from Champlin Timothy!

Looks like your project’s really coming along. Are you plans only building? I just started my Cruzer in June. I’ve had a reduced work schedule with COVID so had plenty of time but I’m back at work now missing my shop time.

Hope you’re enjoying this crazy weather. Jeff

Hi Tim,

Ok, Thanks for the comment on the nose rib. I have erased the SLATS from my builds also; too complicated for the gain they provided. Instead, I use the Vortex Generators (VGs) on the main wing of my actual CH701sp and saw an increase in top speed (8mph) and a better glide also... My CH701 is still very much STOOL...

Regards,

Norm

Hi Tim,

I've got the CH750 edition 2 plans and dont seem to have the same wing nose ribs as yours ... Are your plans edition 3 ? Are the wing nose ribs longer nowadays ?

Nice work !

Regards,

Norm

Hi Tim,
Very true; the CH750 has beefier attachments for the wing/struts and stab.
Come to think of it, wouldn't you want that anyway ???

As for the wing/stab trailing edges bucked rivets; they don't add any
strenght to either the wing or stab. It would look real dumb to install
pulled rivets in those locations anyhow. Bucked rivets look better is
the only purpose there...

Once again here my comment is that trying to make those trailing edges
(wing and stab) STRAiGHT is next to IMPOSSIBLE and, believe me, I tried
and tried and tried. The 750 uses an aluminum sheet bent('V') to make up the
trailing edges of the wing/stab. This makes them straight and true.
Requires a bending brake mind you.

So, my general comment still holds : why not construct the CH701 wing using
the CH750 techniques and why Zenair hasn't revisited those 701 plans yet ???

>i got it at lowe's i had some from another project and it worked really good.   it's self etching but it is really expensive  one rattle can does not go very far.  I am going to paint it myself but it will be a two part epoxy, this was just simpler to use.

Hi Tim:

Thanks for the friend request.  Am really impressed with your better than factory build.  What a passion you have for detail.

Nothing final on the nose section yet for the wing.  As I get closer to cutting metal my plans become more moderate.  The Sportsman cuff profile will be close to what I go with.  I have built the ribs and have the metal for the spars and expect to be well into the wings by late summer. Too many other, non airplane issues to deal with. The build is as much therapy as anything else at this stage.

I am very pleased with accounts by other builders who have ditched the slats and went with a more conventional wing with vg's. The experimental aspect within reason is providing myself a lot of satisfaction. Other builders such as Armand Lambert, Mark Maltais and Chumphol Surinavin have been an inspiration for me to mention only three.

Cheers       Brian

Hi, Timothy! Thanks for the friend request. I started my 750 building the rudder and tail kits, but am now scratch building the rest. Huge learning curve for me!

Hi Tim, this 750 mounted a 6 banger Alfa Romeo engine converted for air...130 Hp. The owner produces plastic components and made this cowling himself. His first test taxi & rolls he is preforming very long T/O runs...maybe a W&B issue to smooth out. Keep in touch.

Hello Tim,

It looks like you are already flying your Zenith. Maybe I could pick your brain for tips as I build mine. Good to know there are other builders in the Twin Cities area.
