John,
My experience with filter adaptors. Cruzer with Lycoming. B&C adaptor will not let the filter clear the motor mount. They also make one that puts the filter at the six o'clock position. Would be OK but requires a spacer to clear the accessory case. Puts the filter back against the nose strut. The Airwolf adaptor will work but requires more oil lines and mounting the filter on the firewall. Fabricated my own spacers, did not work. Just not enough room. Having a filter? Nice but not required. Lycoming's have millions of hours with the screen. What I did. Got a Lycoming screen and housing. Removed the lower inboard mounting stud from the case to use a 1/4-20 bolt [optional]. Put quick connect in oil temperature probe wire.
Pull the prop back a few turns. Loosen the bolts tilting the housing down and remove. No oil spill. Easy to find a screen and housing. Anyone that installed a filter adaptor has them. Right or wrong, That's what I did.
Works for me also.
