alumaloy for fuel tank fabrication
On the subject of fabricating fuel tanks. It looks like welding tanks out of 025 6061 aluminum is not a job for beginners. But... I can solder and I'm seeing great claims about soldering aluminum with products like Alumaloy. I want to build a tank or a test structure that I can pressurize and leak test. Also, I would solder together some coupons that I can stress test. Some info I've seen says 3000 series aluminum can be soldered with this stuff but 6000 series is a maybe. I would be reluctant to change to 3000 when Zenith specifies 6061. And what about welding (soldering) the various fixtures, cap, vent fitting, fuel line fitting, sending unit port? Has anybody tried soldering in the fabrication of tanks?

I've tried to solder 6061 several times with no success. I almost ruined one of my tanks. An experienced welder at our airport was able to salvage the tank. Haven't tried 300o series aluminum.

I have been there and tried to do that. Fuel tank construction should be left to professionals who have the talent of welding aluminum. Buy the tanks from BUDDY. that's a very good price.. My professional made tanks were very expensive. zenith price is less than some welders would charge.
