Hi,
I have a 24 volt radio I want to use in a 12 volt system, does anyone know of a simple way to do this?

Is the radio 24 volt only? Some are selectable 12V/24V. If it is only 24 volt then the easiest way would be to use a DC to DC converter to get the necessary 12 volts. "Easiest" is a relative term and it may be simpler, less complex, and ultimately easier to just get a 12 volt radio.
Thanks for the reply,
I'm not sure about being selectable, it is out of a Cessna 152 and is listed only as 24 volts. I wanted to replace the new radio in my 150 and put it in the 601XL I'm building but if I can't find an easy way I'll probably look for another radio.
Use an "up" voltage converter. Here is one that Aircraft Spruce carries, there are others out there, also.

Now, the question is - Is the cheap radio worth the almost three hundred dollar converter? Decisions, decisions......
And the reply to that is 'no' so I guess I'll be looking for another radio.
thanks for the advice,
There are all sorts of 12->24v "up converters" on Ebay for $20-$30. I have absolutely no idea how well they work, but if the Cessna radio was really, really cheap, it might be worth a gamble. On the other side, you can get a modern radio like the MGL V6 that has every conceivable function - memory channels, stereo intercom, stereo music input with automatic fade for transmission/reception, etc. that weighs about 240 grams for a little over a thousand bucks ... and it operates on 12-28v.
thanks for all the help-----I'm working on a trade of the 24volt for a 12volt.
I decided it will be easier than adding complexity to the electric system.
