8 years ago I installed the 3M 1080 vinyl wrap on my CH 601 xlb. Today I had to remove a section on my wingtip to replace the fuel tank.

Over the eight years the vinyl wrap has not deteriorated at all. No fading no shrinking it basically looks like it was brand new. The only thing I've done to protect it is to use Lemon Pledge to clean it.

Today using a heat gun set on low I removed about a 3 square foot section. It came out very easily. It was quite surprising how perfectly clean it was underneath. There was absolutely no residue whatsoever. There was no sign of any water getting through the vinyl or any other type of damage in. In fact the metal look better than the polished metal that was immediately adjacent to it.

I know some people have had concerns about what happens underneath vinyl wrap after a period of time. However this new vinyl is not the stuff that's in your grandmother's cupboards. It's somehow has air channels in it that allows moisture not to build up.

Also doing the vinyl wrap on my plane was one of the easiest things parts of the build.

I've attached a pic of the end of the wing where the vinyl was removed. It is perfectly clean as if I just installed it. There was no residue at all. No dust. No trace of moisture on the polished metal. I really was not expecting it to be this perfect.

Just wanted to post my experience for the benefit of others.

Just recently I was thinking "I'd sure like to hear a long-term update on how vinyl wraps hold up!"  Thanks so much for your report!
