Hi guys.

My name is Al and I am from Calgary Alberta working on partially build 701 kit.

Just wondering going from 016 skin to 020 thickness would it make a big difference generally and is it worth it

is it possible to make slats out of one skin
How much difference does the ring type of engine mount for Rotax 912 makes compare to bed type engine mount on 701 and is it worth the extra cost

The ring mount I have is much smoother, but was very hard to modify tuned air box to fit , am very happy with end result , and plane is faster with matching cowl , also better cooling ,  ,with NACA air intake on pilot side you get ram air to carbs , although hard to measure  it is using less fuel and was able to increase prop pitch with same max takeoff RPM 5,800 by apx. 1 degree.. BOB

Did anybody tried to fly 701 with slats and VGs installed at the same time

I fly that way all the time, I removed the slats some time ago and installed VGs. I usually fly slatsless on long trips, but flying local usually have the slats installed, without removing the VGs? No adverse effects that I can tell. This is on a CH 750.

Bill

Thanks Bill

Just wondering if you have 912 in your 750?

Yes I have the 912 ULS.

Do you have ring type or bed engine mount type?

Ditto Bill's remarks.  Although I now fly slatless 100% (with StolSpeed VG's), I flew another 750 (with StolSpeed VG's installed) both ways - with and without slats - no problem!

Why go to 020?

016 is what the plans call for and there are hundreds of them flying out there under the worst conditions and have been for decades. There is no worthwhile advantage to 020 but the weight of the skin increases 25%. That's huge.

Ok thanks Joe for your input.

Al

Hi John so you havent notice any difference flying with our without slats on wings that have VGs?
