Hi Andre

This is what I did on my Zodiac using the Jeep shifter boots.

Compression plates I made from 25 thou 6061-T6 and 3/32 aly rivets and sealed with sikaflex adhesive sealant.

I then made some flaps from silicone engine baffle that drape down over the boot holes on the firewall side in case of fire.

 

You can also make your own fire resistant boots by impregnating some fibreglass woven cloth with RTV silicon on a piece of board covered with sandwich wrap. When dry, form a cone and silicon it toghether and sew it with fibregalss strand if you like. This someone elses idea not mine so I can not take any credit for it.

That was a very helpful post, those boots are ideal - I was looking for CV joint boots to do this job, but those ones are perfect.  Really helpful ideas about where to get them too.

Andre - I manufactured some boots over a plywood mold. I used fiberglass cloth and high temperature RTV gasket caulk.
