Im looking at purchasing a completed XL 601 B . It has a Corvair engine with a nitrated crank and the 5th bearing.
A very low time plane/engine, but wonder just how reliable the Corvairs have been for the Zenith users. Any information on insuring these planes and any other information would be greatly appreciated.

As far as insurability Corvair no problem, I bought my 601XL with a corvair 2700 installed and flew it that way for almost 2 years , but now fly more regularly with O-200D up front !
any main reason you switched to 0-200? I have a complete 0-235 FWF packge
Main reason...
I like cross country flying, and the "what if" maintenance failure en-route scared me. A few parts are adapted for aviation use and the supply chain is unreliable.
The more I fly O-200D I feel the expense was worth it. I now feel comfortable behind an incredible "NEW" engine that is lighter, professionally documented and certainly more powerful in my application
For about the past year or two, William has totally revamped his distribution process. Just about every part in his catalog is immediately available off the shelf, and they are very responsive.
