Just got a quote from a San Antonio area DAR for an Airworthiness Inspection.  $1000 flat rate.  Is that the going rate, as this seems expensive from what I've heard in the past?

Will someone please recommend a reasonable DAR in our area (San Antonio, TX)?  Thanks.

John,

We are blessed- he charged me the same in 2019- I thought it was a fair price indeed. And FYI to all, he told me he will support anyone East of the Mississippi River, although his travel expenses may grow your individual cost.

Repairman certificate was a breeze.  Went to the FSDO for that.

Reminds me of my bizarre experience getting a Repairman's Certificate!  I don't want to creep this thread, so you can read about it here.

John

DAR's , IA's and DPE's all gouge whatever they can in an area. Hell as an A&P id do my annual on certified plane and the idiot IA would want excess cash h to sign it off with nothing done but checking that I checked the AD's!!!

in the early 80's the company i worked for would import the DPE from up north (  a company employee ) until locals discovered the moneybags wouldn't fall in their lap

This IA did you no favors if he signed off the aircraft based on your inspection.  An A&P may delegate you to do work and then sign it off; but an IA may NOT delegate an inspection.  He must perform the inspection himself.

My point exactly, I pay him to read about ad's that years ago that only the IA subscribed to ( a microfiche service) . Today with the internet i don't need him redo my work. I would agree the second set of eyes is nice.  As an A&P I performed 100 hr. inspections using the same checklist and procedures as the annual.. HMMM.. like the guy in one of the prior posts was a DAR with little experience in the type. how about complying with some STC's and the needed payoff, after all how could i read the instructions and follow the directions without financial oil used

do not mention cfi's who make a bi-annual check into a production. I know a guy who was fleeced in a series of flights. If you cant tell in 16 minutes if the guy is competent...give up
