Davis CA Hangar Space Dillema
Good afternoon!
I'm a recent Air Force veteran moving out to Davis CA for work. Did my Cruzer rudder at the factory, getting my elevator in after the move in September, working on polishing what I have while I wait.
Gonna need to get hangar space at some point for assembly, I'm sure, as I'm living in an apartment without any kind of garage or yard. Would love to final assemble and test at KEDU but their hangar waitlist is 3 years long, and I assume the rest of the Davis area is not much better. When it comes time to build the fuselage, I'll definitely need the extra space. Was wondering if anyone knows somebody willing to have a young buck split hangar space and rent with them, or any tricks or strategies for getting the space required. Anyone got any ideas?

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but have you either met in-person or spoken to whoever actually keeps the waiting list? Years ago, I was being economically forced-out of a community hangar space and went to a small airport that was more convenient but had heard the waiting list was "years long." They were building some new hangars and so I went to the management and inquired about the waiting list. The FBO manager laughed and said, "That list is so old probably 1/2 of them have moved away or died or sold their plane!" Since I was standing there, checkbook in hand, he signed me up for a new hangar. Only catch it was large enough for 3 planes, but I had zero problems sub-leasing the other 2 spaces. Haven't yet, purely on account of my move hasn't taken me from Vegas to Davis yet, but I will try this out once I'm over. Maybe Yolo County airport has a breakfast spot where all the pilots and owners congregate, those work wonders for networking too.

EAA Ch52 at KDWA has a hangar (full at the moment) and hosts pancake breakfast on the second Sunday morning of the month through October. You have two more chances to stop in and join us for a meal. Several members have a good circle of acquaintances around the area and maybe someone knows of an open space.
I have my CH750 STOL at Rio Linda L36 a small but friendly field. I have not made the drive but I'm guessing it's a 40 minute drive, depending on traffic, from KEDU to L36. The flight from L36 to KDWA takes me about 22 minutes or so. Since you are driving the time factor is likely key for you.
You might be able to share a space for a while, like most things keep asking around and show-up in person to say hello.

Last Tuesday of the month 1900 hrs. at Executive, KSAC, conference room first floor. Search EAA Ch 52 for a little more info. Some time spent in Yolo some in Sac.
