Double or Duplicate Topic Posting
Lately, we've had a rash of double or duplicate posting of topics. At first glance, this seems like a good idea - if the same topic is posted in 2 or more different forums, then it's more likely to get some responses. That's probably true, but the purpose of the forum is not only to get information for the topic's author, it's also to disseminate the information for the other builders!
Remember, not everyone has access to all the type-specific forums. Even if they do, they might just read your topic in one forum and not realize that the same topic in another forum has different or better responses.
It would also seem harmless to post the same topic in 2 or more forums, but others tend to imitate what they see. If a number of forum participants start double posting, it will clutter-up the forums needlessly and cause chaos!
So please, when posting a topic, decide whether it is a general topic and belongs in the Open Forum or if it relates more to an aircraft type-specific topic, if so, post it in the appropriate type-specific forum such as STOL 750, CH 601/650, etc.
If you do post a topic in a single forum and get no responses after a reasonable time, either "bump" the topic back up to the top by responding to your own post informing others you'd still need the information, etc., OR, delete your topic and re-post it in another forum if appropriate.

I "thought" the original author could delete his own post - if that option is not available or there isn't a tiny "X" in the upper right hand corner of the post, then I guess it's just an option that only I have as a moderator. If so, then just send me a message and I can do it.

John, yes, we can always delete our reply, but we cannot edit after 15 minutes. We can delete and edit a discussion we add at any time.

Whenever I post a new topic I get a " waiting on ????" which is this blog. The post seems to go through but I think people repost because they think their first post got hung up - happened to me a week ago - reposted a question on upholstery to my 601XLB. Just letting you know why this may be happening.

That could be if duplicates appear in the same forum, but that's not the usual problem. I'm mainly concerned with posting the exact, same topic in two or more different forums, such as Open and 701, or, 701 and 750, etc. That requires copying the post and deliberately placing it in two or more forums, not simply re-posting to the same forum.

John, please note my recent post on "tow bar designs" in the Open Forum. Some action, but not a lot. I have no way of knowing how many people read which fora, but the subject pertains mainly to 750's (701's, 801's) etc. Maybe some people don't read the Open Forum as much--I know I don't. I hate to delete a thread that has replies on it; that means a loss of that information doesn't it? Or does it? I just don't know. Still, I suspect I should have posted it on the 750 forum . . . ????

PS: It is interesting to note that the ad that is just to the right of this message as I type it in is from Northern Tool for a tow-bar for trailers, not aircraft. Maybe a matter for the webmaster? I should also add that I sent an email to the Tailwheel Transporter company to see if they might be interested in modifying their design, but no answer to date. If their product raised the wheel just a little higher and would take a nosewheel, it "looks" like it might do the job. Am I creeping again? Is some creep inevitable? I hope I'm not a creep!

"Tow Bars" are a general topic and the Open Forum is probably the most widely read forum, so I think that is a good placement for that topic! If you delete a topic, all the replies are gone with it. The bottom line is just decide if a topic is of general interest and therefore appropriate for the "Open" forum or if it is so specific it only applies to a specific model and should be posted in that specific model forum.
As far as advertising, some of the ads you see are NOT controlled by the website - Google, for one, "remembers" what you have searched for and then pulls up ads that seem relative. Obviously, they didn't pick up you were discussing/searching aviation tow bars. Right now, I've got an ad on the page for locksets for my house as I'm doing an addition and had been searching for a lockset to match my present hardware, so Google has "pushed" an ad onto the page ... if you click it, the "click through" credit is one way Google makes money!
