Tapping into the "brain trust" on this forum -  anyone doing it, if so how?  Trying to get some ideas on how to support the exhaust tube and reduce the muffler cracking potential.  How to support and isolate the vibrations to the tube are the design goals. Brainstorming - anything goes!!

Thanks - Dave

If the pipe passes reasonably near the lower edge of the firewall or an engine mount tube, you could make a support from a short strip (~ 1/4" thick, 2-3 inches wide, and few inches long) of reinforced silicon rubber baffle material.  Sandwich the ends by through-bolting between metal plates - attach one end to the firewall or an Adel clamp on a mount tube and the other to either a small flange welded to the exhaust tube or use a U shaped exhaust clamp and bolt to one of the threaded ends of the clamp, or fabricate a clamp as in the photo below.  I've seen that method used on older certified planes.

Here's a couple of pics of a Stinson support to give you some ideas:

Thanks John, good ideas!  I'll likely have to bend up a longer piece of exhaust tubing to get close enough to an attach point on the engine mount or other area on the airframe.  Pics when I'm done.   Dave
