It affects model 200-8013 only for the ADS600-EXP  ( I think I have 200-0012, but I've got to check!).

Looks like some bad advice from AOPA in the article ...the AOPA spokesman recommends discontinuing use of the affected units immdeiately despite the fact this is a proposed AD and Moffett/NavWorx says there has not been any instance of inaccurate position information being transmitted.  All units in-use are supposed to be flight tested for data integrity, anyway.

The comment period is open until December 19, 2016, so if the AD is approved, I suppose the effective date would be some time after that.

This doesn't apply to the EXP.  It only applies to the STC'ed B models.  My EXP has been working great and has passed 3 separate flight tests from the FAA.

This doesn't apply to the EXP.

This is a direct quote from the Federal Register:

(a) Applicability

This AD applies to the following NavWorx, Inc., Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Universal Access Transceiver units (unit) installed on aircraft certificated in any category:

(1) Model ADS600-B part number (P/N) 200-0012;

(2) Model ADS600-B P/N 200-0013; and

(3) Model ADS600-EXP P/N 200-8013.

It clearly lists ADS600-EXP P/N 200-8013.  I do agree, however, that it is confusing in that I thought EAB's need not comply with AD's. I guess the FAA can get around that, however, by saying this creates an "unsafe condition" (and therefore I assume "unairworthy"?)  and the FAR's say that no pilot may operate an airplane "not in an airworthy condition."  Or, a pilot can't operate an aircraft "in a careless and reckless manner."

???

P.S.: You can go to this link, Formal Comment, if you would like to make a formal comment to the FAA concerning this proposed AD.  I read some of the comments and good points are made, a couple being that these units have not been shown to be inaccurate (therefore the FAA has no data to support the AD) and it would actually decrease safety by denying ADSB-in information!  It appears to me to be a technical problem between NavWorx and the FAA rather than an actual functional, operational problem.

I have the Salus-3 and perfect FAA tests and ADSB-in with ForeFlight also checks good!
