Anybody know what this hole is for? I could not find it in the plans. TIA

Fishing pole storage?

My two cents is possibly an air vent.  A fair amount of air comes aft to forward in the 601, so maybe they were taking advantage of that and directing it to the upper pilot compartment.  However, without a way to throttle it, cold air would be a little annoying in the winter months.

It's the intake for the turbine hidden away in the back.
