I am not a very computer literate person. I can work the thing and do basic system updates and such, but don't really know the ropes...............

Starting a month or so ago every time I click on a photo link in this forum group my Norton Security allows the picture to flash up for a fraction of second then displays a warning that a known hazardous website has been blocked. If I try again the block happens immediately, not even the flash of a picture. I followed the "info" links in the Norton warning page and it says that a known virus has been detected on the photo website (ning, or something like that, is the name of the storage place).

So, for our moderator of for someone who knows computer and internet safety stuff -- is it ok to force the display of the picture or is there really a problem at ning? I hate to override Norton but also don't like not being able to see the pictures folks are posting.

Thanks, Gang, for your knowledge.

Hi Bob,

As moderator, I simply monitor and edit or delete inappropriate posts - I do not serve as a "webmaster" or have anything to do with the technical side of the website's software platform.  BTW, "Ning" is the name of the online social network platform that hosts our website.

I think Sebastien serves as webmaster and often, a long time member, Efe Cem Elci , has helped members with technical problems. This is the first time I've heard of this specific problem - perhaps one of them, or some other member that has experienced this, can help out.

In case anyone else has this Norton problem, further research disclosed that if you click on the picture linbk and get the dangerous website message, you can click on something worded "display anyhow" or "go to the website anyhow" and Norton will then have you sign in to your Norton account to activate a new feature that makes it safer to browse a website that is known to have a virus on it someplace. The feature converts any hyperlinks or internet connections into script only so they are not active and therefore cannot take you to an infection. You can view the picture but will not be able to click on any links that are associated with the picture. The good news is I can see the pictures again.

Once you have done the sign in with Norton "thing" once it knows you want to use this new mode and will automatically let you use it without having to sign in each time, you just need to go through the intermidiate step of clicking on "go to website anyhow" or whatever it says and it will take you there from the warning page. A bit tedious but it works.

I've gotten the same message. Not for all images, though.  I just click thru the "lemme harm myself" link that Norton provides. Would not do that on other sites, though!

I find that Norton likes to be overly cautious, and marks anything that's not 100% squeaky clean, as some sort of hazard. If they mark it "unsafe", and you click it anyway, then they're not liable. I wouldn't put much thought into it.
