FWIW-some users of the updated latch have reported that they've bumped it and had it come open on them.  I think we would all benefit from a secondary latch.

I followed the lead of some builders in Australia and installed a spinlock clete from a sailboat.  I have a 1/4 inch low stretch line running from a bracket riveted on the rear canopy rail to the clete on the panel behind the armrest. Push down to lock, give a tug on the line to release.  It has the added advantage of giving you some control when raising the canopy in windy conditions or pulling it down when getting ready for flight.

Joseph,

I've attached a PDF drawing of a Jay Bannister design that I'm using on my 601.  Easy to install and had the parts laying around so the cost was zero.  I looked at Tim Juhl reply and I do like the spinlocklock cleat design.  I will probably investigate it for my plane.
