Sorry, folks; I don't know any other way to describe it.

On my previous build 10 years ago, I happened upon a roll of tape that looked just like a roll of electrical tape. The interesting point is, it was about 1/32" thick, about 2-3x the thickness of regular tape.

It was GREAT for wrapping around the motor mount where I was going to affix a zip tie to keep the tie from abrading the mount tubes.

However, I can't find it now. Is anyone familiar with what I describe and can offer a brand/trade hame?

Thank You, Ken; exactly what I was talking about! How splicing tape is different from electrical tape (in the general sense), I dunno. Of course, when I use electrical tape, I'm usually "splicing" connections, so....  But this is the stuff!  (btw, Amazon has it $8 less for the 3/4" roll!)

Here are two alternatives, which I think are better than adhesive tape:

I just use a wrap or two of self-fusing silicone "Rescue Tape" - works great and no adhesive residue if you remove it!

Also, there's a relatively new product called "GripLockTies" that are rubber-lined zip ties.  Pricey, but work well and have a release so they can be re-used.

Thanks, John;  I was uncertain about the rescue tape. I've used it many times over the years, but was a bit concerned in the engine compartment with the temperatures. Probably OK as I think about it.  I saw those grip lock ties at Oshkosh a year or so ago and was intrigued by them. I think I still have the free sample they provided!

I've used "Rescue Tape" for years in the engine compartment and it resists heat well (rated to 500F).  In fact, I put a few wraps around some of my CHT wiring to pad it where it contacts a cylinder head and it hasn't shown the least bit of tendency to deteriorate over several years.

John

I just recently saw an article on silicone tape, I believe it was on Kitplanes. As John mentioned, is rated to 500° and was being used throughout the engine compartment. FWIW.
