Other than Metal Supermarket does anyone know of a local supplier of sheet aluminum? Just trying to see if MS has any competition.
Scratch building stumbling block #1. So after trying for a couple of weeks to locally source the 6061-T6 aluminum sheet goods, I've run into a dead end with Lower Mainland Vancouver suppliers. The comment I keep getting here is that they don't stock sheet goods in such small thickness as required by the 750 plans. Has anyone had any experience with Seattle area metal suppliers? I would gladly make the trip down and load up the truck if I knew of a supplier with the range of thicknesses I'd need.
You are right, you cannot get what you need for thin material though metal supermarket, and you would have to be careful with them as a lot of the material does not come with the ASTM cert marks on it, so your just taking their word it’s 6061-T6.
I set up an account with Yarde Metals, but never used it when thinking about scratch building, you might inquire with them. I looked at ordering through Seattle based guys and that seemed like a good idea, but again never ordered. You might try to contact Blair Edlund at EA Structures in Chilliwack, he has built a couple Zeniths and may be able to source material for you or point you in the right direction.
Sorry not much help. You may want to check out RAA Chapter 85 in Delta, We have a flying Cruzer and 701 on the field (hungered) and another 701 in progress, and a member who recently did first flight in 750 STOL at Langley. Meetings first Tuesday of Month.
Thanks for this. The RAA 85 is having their Christmas party tomorrow night. We will be there. Do you recall the name of any Seattle based wholesalers? I will check on Yarde Metals today.
Could try Samuels, I get service from Calgary but they have a lower mainland distribution center as well.
Thank you. I tried their Anacis Island location but they only handle Steel th4ere. They suggested I try the Langley location. Will call tomorrow.
If you're having difficulty, contact the Calgary branch 403-203-0731 and ask for Ferlin, they transfer stuff across the country on their own trucks and Ferlin is a guy who can get you looked after.
