I have a CH 701. Doing some modification and wish to improve the look of the seal between the lower windshield and the upper panel cover (lower edge of windshield). In the past, just a clear silicon was used. This did a good job of sealing but the appearance was a little rough. Anyone have ideas on some type of rubber U shaped trim seal that would work? I can measure when I go the next time to the airport, but does anyone know off-hand what the thickness of the windshield is (looks like 3/16 - 1/4) ?
Thanks
Jerry

Jerry,
I went down to my local windshield replacement guy. Looked at what he had and deceided to take a couple of pieces 6 - 7 inches long to try One of the rubber ribs fit excellently. Can't remember what it was named or part numer etc.He donated enough to do the job. Sealed the rubber to the cowl with silicone - the windsghield side already had glue in the groove.
Still grinnin!!

When making my 701 I tried different rubbers but wasn't happy with any of them. Then I saw a video piece on a guy who made his own seal from fibreglass in one of the zenith newsletter DVD's - probably 5 yrs ago - or more.
I had never made anything from fibreglass before, but I bought some fibre glass (strip) material from my local boat shop, plus the resin etc and made one and it has proved to be great.
I have some photos of how I did it. If you would like to send me an email jstruthers at Glenhill.co.nz then I'd be happy to send you my photos. Unfortunately I cant put my hands on the DVD but someone may have it.
It proved easy to make and I am very happy with it - far from perfect - and no doubt there is no other one quite like it! - but it works and looks great
