Has anyone ever changed the “stock” location of the micro vortex generators on the elevator of the 750 STOL???

I’m checking to see if I should use double-sided carpet tape and experiment with location or just rivet them on permanently now.

Anyone that changed the location...what are the new measurements or location??? What performance numbers changed?

I asked the same question years ago when Caleb was the engineer at Zenith.  He said he had no reports then of a better placement than the plans. IMHO it's such a modest effect that I think it would be very difficult to detect a difference.  My HT fences and elevator tip extensions do, however,  produce a dramatic difference in elevator authority at low speed.

Good news! I’ll just rivet them on now.

Do you have any pics of those mods?

There's an extensive and detailed post with pics located here:http://www.zenith.aero/group/stolch750/forum/topics/elevator-mod-ht...

Thanks for the info! I just might install the HT fences too. I know the Super 701 built by Jon Humberd has them as well. Great idea!

I am also going to be using the 750SD rudder as the 750 STOL rudder seems too small. I believe it looks better proportionally with the bigger rudder. Roger told me there is one other guy out there doing the same thing with the bigger rudder too.

You can install the SD rudder for "looks,"  but IMHO the original rudder is way more than adequate! In 650 hrs and 8 years, I've yet to encounter a situation where the rudder was not adequate or even full rudder was required - it's powerful!

That’s great news too! I am doing it mainly for looks. The metal for the fences should be here in 2 days...back to building.

By the way, did you wait til the plane was finished to paint it? Did you paint it yourself? Love the green!

The benefits from the fences will be modest but noticeable - the tip extensions provide the dramatic improvement! I completely assembled the plane, then broke it down for paint. My neighbor, who has done paint and body work for decades and painted airplanes before, painted it for me in his paint booth. I then reassembled the plane in my hangar. It's the Gecko Green paint code used for Jeeps and Dodge Chargers.
