Hi there - looking for ideas.

The original builder put the EGT probes for the two front cylinders sticking straight out to the side.   Now that I am fitting the cowl - the EGT probes are hitting the fiberglass.

I want to plug the original holes, and drill new holes that would have the probes angling back to allow more room next to the cowl.

Anyone know offhand if the exhaust tubes need extra care when welding?   Like, are they stainless?  (they look like they might be).

Any other ideas for plugging the original holes besides welding them shut?   Maybe tap and insert a stainless screw?

Has anyone used any solutions, that they could recommend (or not recommend).

Thanks!

Many years ago I had the same problem with a Jabiru cowling. Not every welder can weld that hole shut, without the possibility of the little weld being sucked into the exhaust. What I finally did is : I got a strip on stainless material , such as the clamps that hold the probe of the EGT sensor. I got an awl and punched a pimple in it so that it would cover the hole. I made my new hole opposite of the existing hole. This way the clamp would hold the little piece of stainless with the pimple on it. If I had a picture I would send it. It worked without  any exhaust escaping . I hope the helps

Never tried it, but how about popping a stainless rivet in the hole?
