As posted elsewhere, I recently attended the Jabiru Engine Course at Jabiru USA in Shelbyville, TN.  Pete Krotje gave a neat tip for more-precisely matching the pitch between blades on a ground adjustable (GA) prop. Although my Sensenich carbon fiber GA prop has an indexing hub that automatically adjusts the opposite blade, there is some slight "slop" in the system and usually the blades will vary several tenths of a degree in pitch from each other. I've been using a small digital angle finder held to the blade to match-up the pitch more precisely, but small movements can cause big pitch changes and it is a slightly tedious process!

Pete gave a tip that I had not heard previously: He said to rotate the prop to a fixed, known position, such as X inches from the tip to the floor (one could use a plumb bob off the tip with a permanent length of string for repeatability) and place a laser level (that shoots a beam parallel to the level) across the prop perpendicular to a fixed distance from the tip and make a chalk mark where it strikes the floor. Then, rotate the next blade to the same position and repeat, twisting the blade to align the laser with the previous chalk mark.

The distance magnifies tiny pitch changes and makes it easy get a nearly perfect match between the blades' pitch. This may be a well-known idea, but it was new to me - I'm definitely going to try this next time I have adjust the prop!
