I am installing the nose wheel and I cannot find what the axle torque should be. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Hi Robert.
The Zenith construction manual states to refer to Chapter 7, Section 3 of AC 43.13-1b for AN bolt torques.
What airplane are you building? They are also lock-wired on my 701.
Hi I am building a 750SD. On this airplane the axle is 5/8" in diameter. The wheel has 2 roller bearings and there are 2 spacers, one on each side of the wheel. There does not appear to be a spacer between the bearings. If too much torque is applied it will side load the bearings. To use the standard torque in chapter 7, it would be 100ft lbs. Seems to be more than needed. I am not sure. That might be correct. I will contact Zenith.

At least on my 750 STOL, the spacers will not side-load the bearings if they are the correct length because once the fork is against the axle, it can't push the spacers inward any more. I believe that the AN5 torque is 100-140 inch pounds, not foot pounds according to my Zenith Construction Standards Manual. It's safety wired on the 750 STOL, so it can't unscrew anyway. Let us know what Zenith said.
